United Spirits launched Smirnoff Ice and Smirnoff Ice Max in Goa, Bengaluru, and Mumbai on 8 October 2026. The move targets ready-to-drink cocktails as vodka sales already neared ₹250 crore in the June quarter.

On 8 October 2026, United Spirits introduced Smirnoff Ice in India’s ready-to-drink segment. The Diageo-backed company is selling Smirnoff Ice at 4% alcohol by volume and Smirnoff Ice Max at 8%, in flavours such as jamun, cranberry, and citrus. Sales began in Goa, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, with more cities planned before the festive season. Management said Smirnoff’s net sales value was already close to ₹250 crore in the first quarter of FY27, after roughly ₹350 crore across FY26.
Ready-to-drink cocktails are still tiny next to beer, but they are growing faster than the global average. Indian drinkers have leaned toward stronger, flavour-led cans rather than the light seltzers that sold in the US. United Spirits is trying to catch people on new occasions, not only when they pour vodka at home. Karnataka’s recent beer tax experiment showed how rule changes can shift what people buy. This launch is a bet that younger legal-age buyers will mix formats when the product is easy to grab chilled.
If you follow consumer names, RTD is a margin and shelf-space fight between beer, whisky, and canned cocktails. United Spirits did not publish a sales target for Smirnoff Ice yet. If you are a shopper, prices and availability will vary by state excise rules. Watch whether rivals such as Bacardi or local brewers push their own canned lines after the festive rollout, and whether jamun-style flavours keep winning in north India as they did for flavoured vodka.
Trade policy / exports
Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on 22 October 2026 that India’s proposed free-trade agreement with the European Union could become operational within four to five months after signing, with the deal expected to be inked before year-end during his visit to Germany.
Food delivery / quick commerce
Swiggy reported on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter revenue rose 36% to about ₹7,571 crore and the consolidated net loss narrowed to ₹922 crore, as food delivery posted record adjusted core profit of about ₹349 crore while quick-commerce Instamart lost about ₹764 crore at the segment level amid heavier discounting and 69 new dark stores.
Quick-service restaurants / consumers
KFC and Pizza Hut operator Sapphire Foods India said on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter consolidated restaurant sales rose 20% year on year to about ₹885 crore, with KFC India same-store sales up 14% and adjusted EBITDA margin expanding 100 basis points to 7.1% even as the listed stock remained far below its 52-week high.
RBI / government borrowing
On 22 October 2026, the Reserve Bank of India accepted no bids at the scheduled sale of short-dated government treasury bills, the first full cancellation in about seven months, as investors demanded higher yields amid a bond selloff, oil-linked inflation fears, and expectations of more rate hikes after October’s policy minutes.
