Desk note · industry · Food delivery / quick commerce
Swiggy reported on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter revenue rose 36% to about ₹7,571 crore and the consolidated net loss narrowed to ₹922 crore, as food delivery posted record adjusted core profit of about ₹349 crore while quick-commerce Instamart lost about ₹764 crore at the segment level amid heavier discounting and 69 new dark stores.

On 22 October 2026, Swiggy published September-quarter results that split its story in two. Consolidated revenue from operations grew about 36% year on year to roughly ₹7,571 crore, beating the consensus estimate near ₹7,281 crore compiled by LSEG. The net loss narrowed to about ₹922 crore from ₹1,092 crore a year earlier, though analysts had hoped for a smaller ₹792 crore loss. The food delivery arm, which still carries most of the brand recognition, delivered record adjusted core profit of about ₹341 crore, up from ₹240 crore, as higher advertising revenue and route efficiency helped. Instamart, the quick-commerce business that delivers groceries and general merchandise from neighbourhood warehouses, widened its adjusted core loss to about ₹895 crore even as gross order value rose about 35% to ₹6,594 crore. Management added 69 net dark stores in the quarter, taking the network to 1,240 sites across 133 cities, and said transitioning to an Indian-owned and controlled corporate structure should add about 80 basis points to net margin over time.
Listed food-tech firms are funding a land grab in ten-minute grocery delivery. Swiggy’s meal business is now profitable enough on an adjusted basis to help pay for that expansion, but not enough to offset Instamart’s burn in one quarter. Contribution margin per quick-commerce order turned more negative, moving to about minus 1% of gross order value from minus 0.2% in the June quarter, which points to sharper discounts and retention offers as Blinkit and Zepto add stores faster. Rival Eternal’s Blinkit added 308 net stores in the same period and said it would keep expanding without chasing margin improvement immediately. For households, the fight shows up as cheaper baskets and wider SKU lists on apps, but also as questions about how long subsidies last after IPO scrutiny.
If you order groceries on Instamart or competitor apps, compare unit prices and delivery fees across platforms during the festive week; promotional pricing may not match the economics Swiggy disclosed to shareholders. Restaurant partners should note that Swiggy’s core meal profit gives it room to keep bidding for diner traffic even while grocery losses run high. Investors should read segment accounts, not just consolidated loss narrowing. Watch Instamart contribution margin next quarter, dark-store rollout pace versus Blinkit, and whether the 80-basis-point corporate-structure benefit flows through as promised.
Trade policy / exports
Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on 22 October 2026 that India’s proposed free-trade agreement with the European Union could become operational within four to five months after signing, with the deal expected to be inked before year-end during his visit to Germany.
Quick-service restaurants / consumers
KFC and Pizza Hut operator Sapphire Foods India said on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter consolidated restaurant sales rose 20% year on year to about ₹885 crore, with KFC India same-store sales up 14% and adjusted EBITDA margin expanding 100 basis points to 7.1% even as the listed stock remained far below its 52-week high.
RBI / government borrowing
On 22 October 2026, the Reserve Bank of India accepted no bids at the scheduled sale of short-dated government treasury bills, the first full cancellation in about seven months, as investors demanded higher yields amid a bond selloff, oil-linked inflation fears, and expectations of more rate hikes after October’s policy minutes.
Restaurants / e-commerce logistics
Shiprocket said on 22 October 2026 it is piloting a direct-ordering stack with Delhi-NCR chains Punjabi Angithi and Bikkgane Biryani, using its fastrr checkout and identity tools plus Shiprocket Quick deliveries so restaurants can chase repeat diners while paying less in third-party commission.
