Larsen & Toubro said on 21 October 2026 that its public-spaces vertical secured two construction orders it classifies as large, worth roughly ₹2,500–5,000 crore each: Common Central Secretariat buildings 4 and 5 along Kartavya Path for the CPWD in New Delhi and twin 47-storey office towers beside the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre in Andhra Pradesh.

On 21 October 2026, Larsen & Toubro told exchanges its Public Spaces, Airports & Health business won two major government construction mandates. The company tags contracts between roughly ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore as large but did not pin precise amounts. The first job, from the Central Public Works Department, covers Common Central Secretariat buildings 4 and 5 along Kartavya Path in New Delhi. Each structure includes a basement, ground level, and seven upper floors, with combined built-up area of about 32.8 lakh square feet. L&T will handle structural, architectural, and MEP work on an engineering, procurement, and construction basis, target completion within 24 months, and then run operations and maintenance for five years. The second award, from the Andhra Pradesh government, is a design-and-build contract for two office towers flanking the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre. Each tower rises 47 floors above a basement and ground level, together offering about 37.5 lakh square feet of office space in the state capital region.
Central government office builds along Kartavya Path are part of a long-running plan to consolidate ministries near the power corridor in Lutyens’ Delhi. Awarding two more secretariat blocks keeps civil works demand alive for steel, cement, and electrical contractors even as private real estate developers complain about slow luxury sales in some metros. The Amaravati towers show Andhra Pradesh still investing in flagship administrative real estate around its quantum computing hub, which supports construction jobs and supplier orders even when residential launches elsewhere look uneven. For L&T, twin large-bucket wins in one day improve order-book visibility and utilise the same project-management teams that bid on airports and hospitals.
If you work in building materials, interiors, or construction services, these projects feed multi-year tender pipelines in Delhi-NCR and Andhra Pradesh. Home buyers in those cities should not confuse government office towers with residential supply; the spillover is mainly jobs and vendor payments. Investors in engineering and construction stocks should read L&T’s order inflow alongside highway and defence awards already announced this month. Watch CPWD milestone payments, Andhra Pradesh land and utility clearances, and whether other EPC majors bid aggressively enough to compress margins on the next central-government campus jobs.
Trade policy / exports
Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on 22 October 2026 that India’s proposed free-trade agreement with the European Union could become operational within four to five months after signing, with the deal expected to be inked before year-end during his visit to Germany.
Food delivery / quick commerce
Swiggy reported on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter revenue rose 36% to about ₹7,571 crore and the consolidated net loss narrowed to ₹922 crore, as food delivery posted record adjusted core profit of about ₹349 crore while quick-commerce Instamart lost about ₹764 crore at the segment level amid heavier discounting and 69 new dark stores.
Quick-service restaurants / consumers
KFC and Pizza Hut operator Sapphire Foods India said on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter consolidated restaurant sales rose 20% year on year to about ₹885 crore, with KFC India same-store sales up 14% and adjusted EBITDA margin expanding 100 basis points to 7.1% even as the listed stock remained far below its 52-week high.
RBI / government borrowing
On 22 October 2026, the Reserve Bank of India accepted no bids at the scheduled sale of short-dated government treasury bills, the first full cancellation in about seven months, as investors demanded higher yields amid a bond selloff, oil-linked inflation fears, and expectations of more rate hikes after October’s policy minutes.
