JSW Motors will unveil its Combat plug-in hybrid SUV on 4 December 2026, later than an earlier Diwali target. The model is based on Chery’s Jetour T2, targets roughly ₹30–50 lakh, and marks the steel group’s first passenger vehicle under its own badge separate from MG Motor India.

Reporting on 12 October 2026 said JSW Motors will enter India’s passenger vehicle market with its first branded SUV on 4 December. The model, widely expected to be called Combat, was earlier tipped for an October launch around Diwali but has slipped to year-end. The vehicle builds on Chery Automobile’s Jetour T2 platform and is likely to use a plug-in hybrid setup: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, an 18.4 kWh battery, and two electric motors delivering a reported 360 hp and 610 Nm through a three-speed hybrid gearbox. International specs suggest roughly 90 km of electric range and about 1,100 km of combined range, though Indian homologation numbers are not final. JSW is also building a plant at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra as it separates its own automotive line from the group’s MG Motor India partnership.
Plug-in hybrids matter for buyers who want electric commuting without giving up long highway trips. A December launch means JSW misses the festive showroom rush but may gain time to localise specs, pricing, and charging bundles. Using a China-developed platform speeds time to market, yet service coverage and brand trust still need to be built from scratch. The reported ₹30 lakh to ₹50 lakh band pits Combat against established premium SUVs where buyers compare warranty networks as closely as torque figures. For the wider market, another credible entrant keeps pressure on incumbents to refresh hybrid line-ups rather than rely on diesel alone.
If you are shopping in the premium SUV lane, wait for Indian efficiency certificates and on-road price before booking. Fleet and corporate buyers should map charging at offices and highways, not just brochure range. Watch JSW’s December reveal for final equipment, ADAS availability, and finance tie-ups, plus progress at the Maharashtra plant. Competitors from Tata, Mahindra, and Hyundai will read the price signal quickly; their festive discounts may look sharper if Combat arrives after the peak buying weeks.
Trade policy / exports
Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on 22 October 2026 that India’s proposed free-trade agreement with the European Union could become operational within four to five months after signing, with the deal expected to be inked before year-end during his visit to Germany.
Food delivery / quick commerce
Swiggy reported on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter revenue rose 36% to about ₹7,571 crore and the consolidated net loss narrowed to ₹922 crore, as food delivery posted record adjusted core profit of about ₹349 crore while quick-commerce Instamart lost about ₹764 crore at the segment level amid heavier discounting and 69 new dark stores.
Quick-service restaurants / consumers
KFC and Pizza Hut operator Sapphire Foods India said on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter consolidated restaurant sales rose 20% year on year to about ₹885 crore, with KFC India same-store sales up 14% and adjusted EBITDA margin expanding 100 basis points to 7.1% even as the listed stock remained far below its 52-week high.
RBI / government borrowing
On 22 October 2026, the Reserve Bank of India accepted no bids at the scheduled sale of short-dated government treasury bills, the first full cancellation in about seven months, as investors demanded higher yields amid a bond selloff, oil-linked inflation fears, and expectations of more rate hikes after October’s policy minutes.
