Reporting on 11 October 2026 showed economy one-way fares on the busiest domestic route holding near ₹6,200–₹6,900 whether you fly the next day or in February 2027, after years when early bookings were far cheaper. Airlines cite fewer seats, costly jet fuel, and weak rivalry after industry consolidation.

On 11 October 2026, reporting on India’s domestic airline market described a break from the old revenue playbook. For years carriers rewarded passengers who booked early and charged more for last-minute seats. On the Delhi–Mumbai route, that gap has narrowed sharply. Passengers shopping for travel the next day saw economy one-way fares around ₹6,200 on Akasa Air, ₹6,500 on IndiGo, and ₹6,900 on Air India. Tickets for February 2027 on the same route carried similar price tags. A few months earlier, those far-dated seats often traded near ₹3,800. IndiGo and the Air India group now account for the bulk of domestic capacity, with smaller shares for Akasa and SpiceJet.
Airlines manage revenue by forecasting demand and releasing seats in fare buckets. When competition was fiercer, they sold distant dates cheap to lock in cash. With fewer flights in the market after Jet Airways and Go First exited and Vistara and AirAsia India folded into Air India, sellers face less pressure to discount the calendar. Jet fuel prices have also jumped, partly linked to the Middle East conflict, so carriers are reluctant to commit low prices far ahead if costs stay volatile. Corporate travel agents note the pattern is domestic; some international leisure routes still show sharper advance-deal pricing.
If you plan festivals, weddings, or winter holidays, compare prices early but do not assume a six-month lead will automatically save money. Flexibility on dates and airports matters more when forward fares stay high. Budget for trains or buses on dense routes if air quotes stay flat. For investors, this is a pricing-power story inside a concentrated market, not a one-day stock move. Watch whether capacity returns, fuel eases, and whether regulators or new entrants reopen fare competition.
Trade policy / exports
Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on 22 October 2026 that India’s proposed free-trade agreement with the European Union could become operational within four to five months after signing, with the deal expected to be inked before year-end during his visit to Germany.
Food delivery / quick commerce
Swiggy reported on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter revenue rose 36% to about ₹7,571 crore and the consolidated net loss narrowed to ₹922 crore, as food delivery posted record adjusted core profit of about ₹349 crore while quick-commerce Instamart lost about ₹764 crore at the segment level amid heavier discounting and 69 new dark stores.
Quick-service restaurants / consumers
KFC and Pizza Hut operator Sapphire Foods India said on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter consolidated restaurant sales rose 20% year on year to about ₹885 crore, with KFC India same-store sales up 14% and adjusted EBITDA margin expanding 100 basis points to 7.1% even as the listed stock remained far below its 52-week high.
RBI / government borrowing
On 22 October 2026, the Reserve Bank of India accepted no bids at the scheduled sale of short-dated government treasury bills, the first full cancellation in about seven months, as investors demanded higher yields amid a bond selloff, oil-linked inflation fears, and expectations of more rate hikes after October’s policy minutes.
