HCL Technologies reported on 12 October 2026 that new order bookings reached $3.3 billion in the September quarter, lifting first-half wins to a record $5.67 billion, even as revenue growth slowed to about 2.2% year on year in dollar terms and management flagged early-stage AI-led deflation in legacy work.

On 12 October 2026, HCL Technologies published results for the quarter ended 30 September 2026. Revenue reached about $3.72 billion, up roughly 2% from the June quarter and about 2.2% from a year earlier in dollar terms, beating analyst estimates near $3.68 billion but marking the slowest September-quarter growth in three years. New order bookings totaled $3.3 billion, taking first-half wins to $5.67 billion, which the company described as a record for the first half. Net profit rose about 10% sequentially to $538 million. Advanced AI revenue climbed about 28% sequentially to $219 million. The board declared a second interim dividend of ₹12 per share with a record date of 16 October 2026. Headcount grew by 6,450 people in the quarter, the largest quarterly addition in 16 quarters after a net reduction in the June period.
Large companies are still signing long contracts, but they are choosier about what gets funded. More than half of HCLTech’s incremental revenue in the quarter came from telecom and media clients, while management said customers prioritize AI, data and operating-model projects when the business case is clear. Chief executive C Vijayakumar said demand improved late in the quarter but remains fluid, echoing Tata Consultancy Services’ view that non-essential spending stays under review. He also argued AI-led deflation in traditional application work is still in early phases, a contrast with global peer Accenture’s view that deflation is now predictable. HCLTech raised the lower end of its fiscal 2027 constant-currency revenue growth outlook to about 2.5% to 4%, while keeping operating margin guidance at 17.5% to 18.5% after margins reached 18.2% in the quarter.
If you sell software or services to big enterprises, the print shows pipelines can look healthy even when headline growth stays muted. Budget owners may fund AI and automation first and delay routine maintenance work. If you work in IT services, hiring picked up again at HCLTech after a lean June quarter, but peers may stay cautious until growth broadens beyond a few client clusters. Investors should treat record bookings as future revenue, not instant sales. Watch whether AI revenue keeps outpacing legacy lines, how telecom and media demand holds into the December quarter, and whether margin gains from AI products offset pricing pressure on older contracts.
Trade policy / exports
Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on 22 October 2026 that India’s proposed free-trade agreement with the European Union could become operational within four to five months after signing, with the deal expected to be inked before year-end during his visit to Germany.
Food delivery / quick commerce
Swiggy reported on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter revenue rose 36% to about ₹7,571 crore and the consolidated net loss narrowed to ₹922 crore, as food delivery posted record adjusted core profit of about ₹349 crore while quick-commerce Instamart lost about ₹764 crore at the segment level amid heavier discounting and 69 new dark stores.
Quick-service restaurants / consumers
KFC and Pizza Hut operator Sapphire Foods India said on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter consolidated restaurant sales rose 20% year on year to about ₹885 crore, with KFC India same-store sales up 14% and adjusted EBITDA margin expanding 100 basis points to 7.1% even as the listed stock remained far below its 52-week high.
RBI / government borrowing
On 22 October 2026, the Reserve Bank of India accepted no bids at the scheduled sale of short-dated government treasury bills, the first full cancellation in about seven months, as investors demanded higher yields amid a bond selloff, oil-linked inflation fears, and expectations of more rate hikes after October’s policy minutes.
