On 20 October 2026 the Enforcement Directorate said it froze accounts holding shares worth about ₹200 crore after searches across six cities in an alleged money-laundering case involving preferential allotments at R M Drip and Sprinklers Systems and R&B Denims that were later promoted on WhatsApp-style campaigns.

On 20 October 2026, the Enforcement Directorate announced that it had frozen trading accounts containing shares worth about ₹200 crore in an alleged WhatsApp-driven manipulation ring. The Mumbai unit had raided 29 locations across six cities the previous week under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The probe centres on two listed names: R M Drip and Sprinklers Systems and R&B Denims. According to the ED, the companies issued more than 35 million shares and convertible warrants through preferential allotments between April 2023 and March 2024. The agency said much of the subscription money came from a tight network of linked individuals, firms, and lenders rather than arm's-length investors. It suspects coordinated promotion, including social messaging campaigns, pushed prices higher so preferential allottees could exit part of their stock.
Small-cap preferential issues can flood the market with cheap paper if governance is weak. When tips circulate on WhatsApp or Telegram groups, retail buyers often arrive after insiders have already locked in allotments. Freezing brokerage accounts is an early step to stop further sales while investigators trace cash trails. The case does not change everyday investing rules, but it shows regulators treating chat-room hype as part of the laundering story, not a side joke. Listed companies with repeated warrant issues and thin floats remain the highest-risk corner for this playbook.
If you follow unsolicited stock tips on messaging apps, treat sudden spikes in obscure listings as a red flag, especially after preferential allotments. Check exchange disclosures on warrant conversions and promoter pledges before chasing momentum. Compliance teams at brokers may tighten surveillance on coordinated buy patterns in micro-cap names. Watch whether the ED names intermediaries beyond the two issuers and whether markets regulator Sebi files parallel trading-ban orders.
Trade policy / exports
Commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on 22 October 2026 that India’s proposed free-trade agreement with the European Union could become operational within four to five months after signing, with the deal expected to be inked before year-end during his visit to Germany.
Food delivery / quick commerce
Swiggy reported on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter revenue rose 36% to about ₹7,571 crore and the consolidated net loss narrowed to ₹922 crore, as food delivery posted record adjusted core profit of about ₹349 crore while quick-commerce Instamart lost about ₹764 crore at the segment level amid heavier discounting and 69 new dark stores.
Quick-service restaurants / consumers
KFC and Pizza Hut operator Sapphire Foods India said on 22 October 2026 that September-quarter consolidated restaurant sales rose 20% year on year to about ₹885 crore, with KFC India same-store sales up 14% and adjusted EBITDA margin expanding 100 basis points to 7.1% even as the listed stock remained far below its 52-week high.
RBI / government borrowing
On 22 October 2026, the Reserve Bank of India accepted no bids at the scheduled sale of short-dated government treasury bills, the first full cancellation in about seven months, as investors demanded higher yields amid a bond selloff, oil-linked inflation fears, and expectations of more rate hikes after October’s policy minutes.
